Study aims

To design digital feeding applications with healthcare workers and caregivers (parents/guardians) and evaluate their effectiveness on caregivers’ knowledge and use of evidence-based feeding interventions at home.

Background

Despite the high prevalence of feeding difficulties in children with autism (between 46% and 89% are affected), our previous study found only two smartphone applications aiming to help caregivers in addressing these difficulties. Neither app was developed for the African context.

Methods

We will use surveys (online and paper) and focus groups to co-design the feeding applications. A prototype will be developed and evaluated for usability (how easy it is to use) and usefulness in lab studies and in field deployment.

Current progress or findings

We are currently recruiting caregivers and healthcare workers to take part in the study. If you would like to participate, please use this link (for caregivers) or this link (for healthcare workers).
